As the UN puts it: Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow. Weather patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, weather events are becoming more extreme and greenhouse gas emissions are now at their highest levels in history. Without action, the rise in the world’s average surface temperature is likely to surpass 3 degrees centigrade this century. The poorest and most vulnerable people are being affected the most.

Understand how natural and human phenomena which cause climate change are interconnected and be aware of the responsibilities of the dominant current development paradigm. Apply the systemic view and approach to forecast possible future scenario, to take decisions in conditions of uncertainty and to assess risks and impacts and therefore ensure the necessary flexibility.
Attentiveness sdg13 Climate action
Be aware of the challenge of climate change for humankind and be able to see, and describe the limits and resilience of natural and human-made systems, the flaws that cause unsustainability and the multiple consequences, in terms of environmental and social impacts of such a planetary change. Stay alert to data which points out changes that are occurring in the climate and to social consequences.
Transdisciplinarity sdg13 Climate action
Be aware that dealing with climate change requires transdisciplinary approaches, not only because it involves all disciplines, from social to scientific, from legal to technological, but also because it affects people personally and involves values, cultures and life styles, as well as the perception of how these contribute to global change.
Criticality sdg13 Climate action
Maintain a critical stance while reflecting and acting on climate change, being aware that this kind of natural phenomena are largely unpredictable, and need a long-term view, attentiveness and flexibility. Distinguish between facts, assumptions and opinions related to climate change, collect and analyse data and sources including the identification of different perspectives and underlying values within arguments.
Futures sdg13 Climate action
Visualise different climate change scenarios, analyse their assumptions, consequences and preceding development paths, then reflect on the habits, rules, technologies that need to change for a new planetary equilibrium.
Empathy sdg13 Climate action
Recognise the difficulty in building empathy in relation to phenomena which occur over a long time frame and large distance. Recognise that climate change is also a human experience, which includes affect and emotion, values and subjectivity. Identify needs and connections within and beyond the human species (e.g. with marginalised people living in poor conditions, climate migrants etc., and with the loss of biodiversity, plants and animals). Develop your own and others’ coping mechanisms and sources of resilience when confronted with potentially overwhelming climate change related issues.
Creativity sdg13 Climate action
Reflect on current behaviours and technologies in use and recognise how the ‘Western’ lifestyle is a principal cause of climate change. Explore alternative and creative lifestyles and alternative technologies, including agricultural and reforestation ones, that can counter and mitigate climate change.
Responsibility sdg13 Climate action
Be aware of personal and collective responsibility in climate change phenomena, including social one as migrations, and explore ways to reduce the individual and social contribution to them. Consider opportunities for change and take action responsively and transparently to bring change about, while reflecting critically on your own decisions and actions.
Participation sdg13 Climate action
Participate actively in global and local actions and campaigns on climate change, as well as in high level political forums and summits organised by International Organizations as UN and EU where civil society, the private sector, academia and other stakeholders can attend. Provide inputs and propose solutions while enabling other stakeholders to be heard.

Recognise how personal values and behaviours influence climate change, recognise diversity and commonalities between others’ values and behaviours and your own. Promote commitment and action toward personal and social behaviour changes.
